Ms. Slovaček specializes in classical Czech vocal repertoire.

Originally from Woodstock, Vermont, Kira Slovaček began her official singing career at the age of 16, winning a scholarship to the Juilliard School for vocal studies.  She then received a B.A. from the New England Conservatory, followed by a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan where she studied with renowned soprano Shirley Verrett.

Ms. Slovaček performed the roles of First Lady in The Magic Flute, Despina in Cosi fan tutte, and the title role in La Périchole with the University of Michigan Opera Theater.  She was awarded apprenticeships with the Aspen Opera Theater and The Tanglewood Music Center.  At Tanglewood, she sang the role of L’Enfant, in Ravel’s  L’Enfant et les Sortilèges.  

In 2007 Ms. Slovaček performed the leading role of Lala in a world premier workshop performance of The Lost Childhood, conducted by Steven Osgood with the International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel.  Other performances include; the role of Clorinda in Rossini’s Cenerentola with Pine Mountain Music Festival, the title role in Dvořák’s Rusalka with Opera for the Young, Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro with Ann Arbor Opera Theater, and an appearance in the American premier of Janáček’s Osud with the American Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to opera, Ms. Slovaček’s concert and recital repertoire is extensive. She has performed on several occasions with members of the Vermont Symphony orchestra in performances of Mozart’s Coronation Mass in C, Exultate Jubilate, and Handel’s Messiah. 

Honoring her heritage, Ms. Slovaček is a great enthusiast of Czech music. In 2005 she was awarded Fifth Place in the International Czech and Slovak Voice Competition in Montréal. She was also named a finalist in the International Dvořák competition in the Czech Republic, and received an honorary award in the category of Art Song.  Ms. Slovacek has been invited to perform Czech concert programs with Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 in Montréal, and in Kassel, Germany.

In 2006 Ms. Slovaček was named a grant recipient of the prestigious Gerda Lissner foundation.
